Artist duplicates

I have found another duplicate artist: Fert One. There is also FertOne. Although the artist signs with fert.one. I think it would be more correct to use the same name that the artist uses.

Hi Briggs,

Cleaned up the most of the artists names you mentioned.
Whole 9 Crew need to dig further in it (who is who etc
)
Rudi Roudy Rondolfo is a claimed Artists Profile. The artist decide by her/him self which name they prefer.

Thanks again
and have a nice weekend bro!
Cheers

Repeat artist. El Xupet Negre also exists as Xupet Negre.

deleted xupet negre:).

Hello, you have these in the database :
MrDjoul artwork
Mr Djoul
I suppose that both of them should be merged into
Mr Djoul

Regarding WHOLE9, it is the name of a Japanese duo (not really a crew), who consist of simo (simo_w9) and Hitch (hitch_w9). There are examples of artworks where they sign an artwork individually (i.e. hitch in Melbourne, and simo’s solo work in Osaka) but when they paint together, they are WHOLE9. Their website is here: WHOLE9 | ABOUT.

While they often paint together, their solo works are significant to be independent of the WHOLE9 duo. This marker has four different artists, but represent the two artists/collective, so

Whole 9 Crew → Whole9 → WHOLE9
Hitch W9 → hitch
simo_w9 → simo

Would be my suggestion. If it is by WHOLE9, then I would just put the duo, rather than the two individual names. Is this how we would prefer to show collective artists?

Some more duplicates:

Uneg → Unegsurfer
LosMetzican → Los Metzican → metzican → Metzican (see website)
MrGum → Mr. Gum
mrgraffity → Mr. Graffiti → Mr. Graffiti (there seems to be two of these when searching for artists for some reason)

image

Mandy Schone-Salter → MAN.De
Camscale → Cam Scale

Other:
There are two artists: PEZ and El Pez. El Pez dominantly features fish, but PEZ seems to be more stencil art. Two artworks are listed under PEZ but should be under El Pez, can this be changes? Artworks Life is a dream and Save The Sea.

Steven Falco ( The Brightsiders ) → Steven Falco. Again, solo artists vs. the collective, although I don’t think the collective needs to be mentioned in the artist’s name.
Also, why is this artist’s URL: http://streetartcities.com/artists/diesl i.e ending with diesl?

More as the hunt continues.

Personally I think it would be better to list both of the artists names on the piece, as then the piece appears on both artists pages as a collaboration, with your suggested method the piece wouldn’t appear on either artists page.

Agree Andrew. And nobody would know who are the members of the crew

“And nobody would know who are the members of the crew
”

Very bold statement. Let’s consider a local example, Hell’O Collective from Belgium. In this piece, Tim’s description is great, it tells me who the members of Hell’o Collective are. On the other side of the Atlantic, this artwork doesn’t have a description, so I supposedly would not know who are the members of the crew. The hunter, if they are just documenting artworks might just look at the artist’s name on the bottom right, and type it as they see it: Hell’O Collective. It does not say that JĂ©rĂŽme Meynen and Antoine Detaille are the artists, although there is some evidence that they do solo works. Should we put both of them in each marker, alongside Hell’O Collective? No need to answer this.

There are many collectives who are just more than one person (Jack and Josh, Melbourne’s Murals, The Brightsiders, Innerfields, WHOLE9, Brothers of Light, etc.) Does Juan Antonio and Álvaro separately represent their duoship: Pichi&Avo? You’d think hunters and street art enthusiasts would be a lot more knowledgeable if they’re documenting diligently, or interested SAC app users looking more into an artist or Google searching them. Hunters are resourceful, knowledgeable and curious. Not “nobody” knowing.

Getting this out of my system since it’s been bugging me from the start of the week. As a suggestion/improvement, maybe (as an example) if ‘The Brightsiders’ are linked to each of the duo’s, anytime Brightsiders is listed as an artist, it should automatically appear in each of the individual artist’s pages (i.e. Jordan Bruce and Steven Falco). Example mock up below.

Although for unclaimed artist pages, some manual work and behind-the-scenes functional work needs to be done for this to happen. Someone (like in Quality Control) will probably need to do this. A suggestion way down the line.

Hello,

There are two pages for artist Oré :

Could you merge them ? It seems that there is a trouble with the accent (Ă©) ?

Arnaud

@Noa_Heutz @thomas this is one for you, we’ve had some other problems with artist names with an accent in their name

There was a bug that caused half of the merge process to fail, I think. In a few hours the first link should expire, the second now contains all info and artworks for that artist.

Hello @thomas ,
This artwork is linked to the first link which does not exist any more.

Could you change the link to the now existing one ?
Old link : https://streetartcities.com/artists/ore
New link : Artist Oré - Street Art Cities

Here’s another artist duplicate to be merged please.

There is one artwork listed for artist “BeFreeArt”, this is a duplicate with “Be Free” where most of the artists works are documented.

Hi Andrew,

Could you sent me a link of this artwork? In which city?
Couldn’t find this artist, maybe somebody always merged this one.

Cheers

@brggsr
We have a Delise Freeman ( Menu ) and a Denise Freeman ( Survival by Fiona Stewart, Denise Freeman, Dean Walker - Street Art Cities ).

It’s the same artist?

There is not enough evidence to prove that these are from the same artist. When I was adding both of these artworks back in March this year, I also noticed the similarity in name too.

Delise Freeman: (Delise Freeman – Southern Tablelands Arts) and Deadly Del Designs

Denise Freeman: From UoW Academic Paper ReDreaming Dharawal (table excerpt below)

Due to the significant time difference between creation, there is a slight possibility that they may be the same artist. Given the obscurity of artwork documentation prior to the digital age and the fact that they’re both from reputable sources (Delise has her own arts business with her own namesake, and the UoW paper mentions Denise twice, as well as in an Aboriginal arts database), I’ve determined that they’re not the same artist.

Appreciate your understanding. I merged Be Free Art with Be Free yesterday evening as the entry was from a previous Sydney hunter, but forgot to advise here.
