Following up on the topic about how to suggest art that is missing on spotting artworks that aren’t yet on the map, wanting to notify hunters, and wishing for a more structured way to collaborate across the community. Here’s a new proposal for a new feature that could solve all of this in one go: let’s call it HUNT ALERT
What is Hunt Alert?
Hunt Alert would be a hidden map layer visible only to:
- Hunters
- Country Managers
- Admins
This layer shows unmapped artworks that community members have spotted but not yet uploaded. It becomes a shared “to‑hunt” board for each city or country.
How it works: ‘Suggest New Art’ button
A new social function appears in the app:
Suggest New Art
Any user,not just hunters, can tap this button to:
- Upload a quick photo
- Add the location
- Optionally add a note (artist name, context, festival, etc.)
This instantly creates a Hunt Alert pin on the hidden layer.
This solves the frustration expressed by multiple users who want to contribute but can’t upload full artworks themselves.
Recognition: “Discovered by…” tag
As suggested, each Hunt Alert pin can include:
- “Discovered by @username”
Similar to the photographer credit, this gives contributors recognition and encourages participation. And could also be used to reward users with extra points in a future ranking.
Notify local hunters
When a user submits a Hunt Alert, the active hunters of that city should receive a community note in their inbox or a notification in the app.
This avoids the need for manual DM’ing and keeps communication centralized.
Country-level collaboration
Hunt Alert also opens the door to a country-wide hunter map, where:
- Hunters can see all unmapped works in their country
- CMs can track what needs to be hunted
- Hunters can “claim” or “tick” works they plan to document
- Temporary access can be granted when hunters travel through other cities
This increases flexibility and reduces the need for CMs to manually coordinate who hunts what.
Why this feature fits the community
Based on the forum reactions:
- People want to share new finds without needing full hunter access
- Hunters want better coordination and visibility
- CMs want less manual overhead
- Contributors want recognition
- Everyone wants more artworks on the map, faster
