“Fast & Furious Suggestions: How do we keep Quality high?

This taps into a previous topic on how to handle suggestions.

Over the last weeks, we’ve all noticed it: the suggestion feature is booming. People are dropping photos left and right, sometimes great finds, sometimes half‑thought uploads, sometimes even artworks where the artist’s name is literally painted on the wall, yet the suggestion comes in as “Unknown”.

That’s not a complaint. It’s a sign of a lively community.
But it is a moment where we need to talk about quality, speed, and responsibility, especially now that Super Hunters have platform‑wide review powers.

1. A quick reminder: Suggestions are Not uploads

Earlier this summer, I shared a post with Super Hunter tips on how to handle suggestions responsibly. The core idea still stands:

  • Treat every suggestion as a review, not an approval

  • Run a quick Google Lens check

  • Cross‑reference the Street Art Cities map

  • Verify artist naming rules

  • Check the city’s Unknowns page

These steps keep the map clean, avoid duplicates, and help new hunters learn through good examples.
If you want to revisit that workflow, tap Super Hunter workflow.

2. But now the challenge is different: Speed vs. Quality

With the surge of suggestions, we’re seeing new patterns:

  • Photos uploaded without any context

  • Artist names visible in the artwork but not added

  • Blurry or low‑quality images

  • Works that don’t meet our street art standards

  • Quick-fire suggestions from travellers who don’t know the city

  • Multiple suggestions from the same user in minutes

This isn’t about blaming contributors, they’re doing their best. But they are missing the yearlong experience of our community.
Question is how we, as reviewers, keep the map credible without burning out.

3. About photo quality: where do we draw the line?

We’re seeing suggestions that are:

  • Too blurry to identify

  • Cropped so tightly the artwork is unclear

  • Photos of vandalism or tags

  • Photos of artworks that are already buffed

  • Photos taken from a moving car

  • Photos with heavy reflections or obstructions

Should these be:

  • Rejected outright?

  • Accepted with a Community Note?

  • Accepted only if the artwork is important?

  • Left for CMs and hunters to decide?

This is where I’d love community input.

If you want to dive deeper, tap quality standards.

4. So… how should we handle fast suggestions?

Here are the questions I’d love the community to react to:

  • Should we expect suggestors to add the artist name when it’s visible?

  • Should low-quality photos be rejected automatically?

  • Should Super Hunters avoid accepting suggestions in CM-led countries?

  • Should we add a “minimum quality” note to the suggestion flow?

  • Should we create a short “How to Suggest an Artwork” guide for app users?

  • Should Community Notes be mandatory when rejecting?

This topic isn’t about rules, it’s about co-creating a shared standard.

7. Your Turn

Super Hunters, Country Managers, hunters, photographers, travellers, you all see different sides of this.

How do we keep the map clean, credible, and welcoming while the suggestion feature explodes in popularity?

Drop your thoughts below. Very curious to hear from you
