We’ve added a new way for the community to help hunters find fresh spots: To be hunted.
This was feedback from the previous Country Managers meeting.
Here’s how it works:
Anyone can report a hunt by dropping a location and a comment, for an artwork they know exists but haven’t been able to track down themselves.
All reported hunts show up in a list or on a map (Explore → To be hunted on the website).
If you want to go after one, you can claim it. You’ll have 3 days to hunt it down before it’s released back for anyone else to pick up.
Once you’ve claimed a hunt, you’ll see it in “My hunting list”, with quick actions to navigate there (via Google Maps), mark it as done, or give it up.
You’ll find a new “To be hunted” link in the Explore menu.
Go check it out, and start reporting artworks you’d love to see hunted! This is a very simple version 1, so please do let me know things that can be further improved.
Woot! This is great. I’ve just gone through the whole process, and have a couple of initial suggestions:
It would be good to do the same auto-linking of URLs here, as often knowledge will be based on having seen it reported somewhere
When you’ve actually added the artwork, it would be good to be able to provide a link to that (presumably by showing your last few submissions in reverse chronological order). I was a bit surprised when everything just vanished without asking me anything.
Also one key question: is this meant to be for artworks where you already know a reasonably precise location, or is it also for ones where, for example you know it’s in a certain city or district, but nothing more specific, but hopefully someone else will? (Or let’s just see what patterns emerge from how it’s used?)
Another thing that would be good is a way to add additional comments. AFAICS there’s currently no way for someone who says they’ll hunt it, to later add a note explaining why they weren’t able to (e.g. it’s only accessible at awkward times), but ideally anyone would be able to add anything useful they know or discover about it.
It would also be useful to be able to edit the original info later too, especially if the location wasn’t precise enough, or wasn’t quite right.
