Just from looking at it just now I’m guessing that Keyword was/is intended for any general information not covered by any other specific tags.
My input would be maybe use both, using a keyword (like Stef mentioned above) would provide you something searchable and using the Related Artworks tag would give you clickable links to artworks from the Details tab of the Place marker.
Also, one other thing I just discovered is that Places don’t appear to be searchable (eg I typed “Hosier Lane” for which we have a place marker and it doesn’t come up in search, but adding the Keyword “Hosier Lane” to the Place marker means it “becomes searchable”.
So, my feedback is I’d say both, or you could use Keyword on all artworks and Related Artwork tag on significant artworks.
You could also add a sentence to the Description in the Place marker suggesting people search on the chosen Keyword value to see artworks that have occupied the legal wall, if you didn’t want to use the Related Artwork tag on all of them.
Ideally: what if could select a place on the artwork page? 'part of xxxx (dropdown menu).
In the dropdown menu should come automatically all the places in the city.
@TinyTim
We are working with @Erwin_Tommissen on the legal walls. When we launch a new wall we discuss before what could be a good name to put in the “keyword”.
In Brussel we have Legal Wall VUB, Marais Wiels, Castarwall, in Oostende we chose as keyword Legal Wall Spuikom…
Maybe the best solution is the introdcution of a new ‘marker tag’ called Hall of Fame which works lke the festival marker tag, meaning that every artwork with this new marker tag will be linked to the Hall of Fame place marker.
@thomas maybe this the way to go, what do you think?
In fact a good idea, but since we have different markers like “outdoor gallery” or “Legal Wall” or a “Hall of Fame” then we need for each one a “Marker Tag”?
I would urge caution in merging all of these, to me, “Outdoor Gallery” is quite different to Legal Wall and I’ve never truly understood exactly what is meant by Hall of Fame.
Legal Wall surely marks a place where it is legal for anyone to go and paint, it is not always the case, in fact it is rarely the case (for us at least) that an Outdoor Gallery is somewhere that is legal to paint.
I think a Hall of Fame is where it is legal to paint there, but it is managed, rather than a free-for-all.
By managed, you either request permission from the manager, or you’re invited by the manager, and the quality of the art has to be equal or greater quality of the art it is replacing.
In other words (at least according to my understanding), a Hall of Fame is a legal wall with REALLY high standards
It may be that I am completely wrong on that definition. Or it could be that I am right, but the meaning varies regionally.
For the latter, I can’t think of any street art examples, but I can think of a different one (a wee bit crude, so read on at your own risk).
The word “bottom” has a few euphemisms. A very mild one used in the US starts with the letter F and is five letters long. You’ll note that I am not typing that word out; that’s because I’m in the UK, and that same word has an entirely different meaning, and is one heck of a lot more vulgar.
We can definitely create a new tag, but I think that might cause confusion - we already have a situation like that with ‘Keywords’ and ‘Artwork subject’, which are used interchangeably by artists (maybe we should merge them at some point).
So I’d maybe instead:
Use the existing ‘Related markers’ one (you can link from the place → artwork, or from the artwork → place, both lead to the same result)
And maybe use a keyword in addition, but I don’t even know if that provides any advantage over just doing number 1 (already creates a page where you can easily see all of them)
I’ve also made an improvement to the app a few days ago that makes related markers show up clearer there, to be in line with the website. This will go live in the app stores in the next few days.
