Well, that’s how Wikipedia’s Jimmy Wales kicks off his annual fundraiser. Not sure it works quite the same for us, but let’s find out!
Tim, Thomas and I started this because we love street art, communities and technology. What we didn’t expect was everything that came with it, the artists we’d meet, the cities we’d end up in, the people we’d find ourselves talking to at 2am in a bar we would have never found ourselves.
Street art creates connections. Between strangers. Between a wall and the person who walks past it every day. Between a community and an artist from somewhere else entirely.
The platform grew the same way. You added artworks, debated attributions, shared discoveries. Every one of our 15 city partners came through a connection like that, someone who knew someone, who understood what we were doing.
So it feels right to ask the community the same thing we’ve always relied on: your connections.
Our goal is simple: document every piece of street art on the planet. We’ve still got a few artworks to go, and getting there has always been about collaboration. With you, with festivals, with artists, with cities.
Here’s where we need your help right now.
Finding the right people in every city, the tourism board, the cultural department, the person who actually gets street art, that’s the hard part. And you’re often closer to them than we are.
Our goal: grow from 15 to 30 city partners before the end of the year.
If you know someone at a tourism organisation or municipal cultural department who understands the value of street art, we’d love an introduction. A reply here, or a mail to [email protected] is all it takes.
A few answers
Will SAC go offline? No. But our partner revenue currently just about covers costs. We want to keep investing in the technology, community, and support that make the mission possible.
Why would a city partner with us? Beyond the platform, we offer dedicated services: tourism analytics, documentation support, media campaigns, and more. For cities that take street art seriously, we make the investment measurable. I’ll show you around during one of the online calls at the bottom of this post.
What does a partnership cost? Between €4-8K, depending on location and scope.
I’ll be hosting a few online sessions for anyone who wants to dig into the details, what our services look like, how the process works, and how you could help make it happen.
And thanks to all of you who already support us, your love means everything.
