Orphaned artworks now link to new cities automatically

We’ve made it easier to keep Street Art Cities tidy! Our system now automatically links ‘orphaned’ artworks—that is, artworks not connected to any city—to newly created cities as soon as they’re added.

This means when someone adds a city for a piece of street art that was missing its location, the artwork will be matched up without any extra steps.

Thanks @Streetartwerpenaar for this excellent suggestion!

Thomas, thanks for this, it seems to be a good update.

Can I just clarify my understanding of this situation. My understanding is that these “orphaned” artworks can only occur when artists place artworks on the map, and the city is not yet defined. And that they will only be “orphaned” when no other city exists within a 150km circle? If there is a city within 150km they will be placed into the closest city. Is that correct?

Is the new change also reliant on a “distance” - ie does the new city have to be within a certain distance of artworks that will now be automatically moved to the new city?

Thanks and regards,
Andrew

Correct and correct!

The only thing this addresses is when an artwork has no city within 150km when created by an artist, but later a city within that 150km radius is added, then the artwork will automatically get linked.

This probably only happens very occasionally, but Tim posted the suggestion, and it gave me a chance to implement a ‘autofix’ mechanism for our automatic system reports/community notes, which we might be able to use to auto fix other issues with artworks in the future as well.
