🚫 No Tagged Artworks on Street Art Cities

Recently we see an increase of tagged artworks on the platform, and we’ve been getting some distressed messages about it, both from some of our experienced hunters and artists.

Street Art Cities is a platform to celebrate murals, street art, and high-quality graffiti pieces. Please do not upload tags, scribbles, or vandalized artworks.

Here’s why:

  • Respect for artists: Street artists spend hours or even days creating their work. Having it tagged over is frustrating and disrespectful, and most artists do not want to see photos of their damaged or defaced pieces shared.

  • Platform focus: Street Art Cities is about showcasing impactful street art, murals, and pieces. Tags don’t fit this purpose and take away from the quality of the content.

  • User experience: Visitors use the app to discover art, not endless tags. Keeping uploads focused on artworks ensures the platform remains inspiring and enjoyable.

  • Legal issues: Tags are often illegal and uncommissioned, which creates complications we want to avoid.

:backhand_index_pointing_right: If you come across a tagged mural, it’s best to wait until the work is cleaned or restored before uploading new photos.

Together, we can make sure Street Art Cities stays a space that artists, hunters, and fans are proud of. Remember hunters are the ‘ambassadors’ of our cities, so please stay away from these defaced artworks.

@Streetartwerpenaar Totally agree with this.
Thanks a lot for addressing it so clearly — I really hope this post helps raise awareness among more members. Let’s keep focusing on quality art and help each other maintain the integrity of the platform. :raising_hands::artist_palette:

We all know that even beautiful artworks are often quickly vandalized, with tags or even obscene drawings. It’s always a difficult choice: avoid posting a picture because the work has been defaced and thus forgotten, or use a less beautiful image, tagged but still making it known.

We hear you, that’s the hunter’s game. Getting the picture when it’s fresh and untouched.

From an archival standpoint it makes sense to upload it, but from an esthetic point of view it doesn’t make sense.

That’s why we hope in the future the artists who normally have the best picture, will start uploading their archives.

I’ve just been to look at a mural, with a view to hunting it. Unfortunately, it has been badly vandalised. I still have photos of it before it was damaged.

Should I still hunt it, but tag it as removed?

Yes exactly. Upload it but choose the ‘removed’ status so it ends up in our archives
