Do we want that though, since that will lead to an empty city without hunters? I’d maybe rather just not create that city until we have hunters.
The artwork will still show up on the map, and on the artist profile, even if it doesn’t belong to a city (similar to how artist-submitted artworks work).
A mural is created in a city X, why connected it to city Y 39 km away?
For example: 3 different markers in one village, without a hunter. Uploaded in 3 different cities(with each a hunter) around the village… does not really make sense?
What about a local artist who start to upload in his city X, but his uploads are going to city Y 20 km away because we don’t have a local hunter. This is happening often actually.
And after a few years we (manpower:) )discover that we have to move all the artworks while this could be fixed from the beginning. This are things from the hunter field.
We all know that the geo borders are not easy to handle, surely in the bigger cities.
Sadly, there’s not really a way to do this easily, exactly for the reason you mention - we can’t really automatically determine if something belongs to one city or another. We have many cases on the platform where a ‘city’ is not exactly the same as the city part of the address for those markers would be.
A good example of that is Penge in London - if we start applying the logic that the marker gets added to the city with the same name as the address, you couldn’t add a suggestion for Penge.
Similarly, there are cases where a country has several cities with the same name, so things would get really confusing really quickly (e.g. there are 4 towns called Newport in the UK, 2 called Bergen in the Netherlands).
Penge is actually a perfect example. Is it London? Is it Penge? There are always exceptions. But this is the problem we encounter in all big cities, right?
The issue we are talking about (or at least what I am talking about ) is more about villages.
For creating cities, I still think this should be done manually. If there is a suggestion for a new city, there should be a possibility to create it manually—or at least give a few SuperHunters the ability to do so. The guys (and girls ) who really know that artwork X is linked to Bergen, Norway, for example.
And this is where CMs could be involved in their countries. They should have the first opportunity to create a city within their given time slot. As you read before, I am in favour of one week. Why rush things and do them sloppily, only to have to fix them afterwards?
Regarding the “Create New City” tool: is this technically a module that could be implemented in the Hunter Dashboard?
Additionally, I am currently updating Penelles in Catalonia (okay, Spain ), and I think the city marker isn’t actually pinned on the village itself.
I understand the issue Thomas is flagging as we have previously had new “cities” created by artist posts that are actually within how we define the Greater Metropolitan Area of Melbourne, so I sort of think that manual is better for creating new cities rather than auto and I agree with Stef about the week and giving CMs the their local Super-hunters the opportunity to process.
The city Buffalo is not on our map yet, but as we see in case we gonna accept this suggestion: it’s gonna be added to the city of Hamilton, in Canada, actually another country (exception… but as we have many countries in the world… ).
What if it’s technically possible to add sth like " possible new city marker needed "?
