Description: tips and tricks

When we started in 2018 mapping street art and graffiti was our main thing, but during the years it became obvious that adding more info was the way to go.
Times of fast images of murals is behind us and our audience wants to learn more about the artworks and the creative minds behind.
Though is not given to everyone to write a ‘Pulitzer’ description, you can go a long way with a few lines.

It’s pretty easy to find more info on most murals, an easy Google search does miracles. And you can always find more info on the artist’s socials. Try to stay away from just copy pasting info from snippets you find in the media, but try to rewrite it a bit

DO’s

  • if the artwork is part of a festival, you can always state ‘created for festival X’
  • write a couple of lines with info you gather from your research. Maybe use ChatGPT to come up with a good text.
  • extra info on the best spot to take pictures is always helpful
  • a good example is Rian’s work, our hunter in Tilburg. you should check out some of her uploads
  • make good use of the marker tags to add extra info, bonus is that this info is searchable .

DON’TS

  • dont’ add artists instagram feeds, websites etc. The artists can add all this ino on their artist page.
  • other links, better to use ‘marker tags’ to add more info.

That’s it for now, but I’ll probably add some more, listening to your input
