Can an artist who has claimed their profile change their name?

Can an artist who has claimed their profile change their name if they do not like the way that hunters have loaded their pieces?

If so, does this then automatically rename the artworks associated with the profile?

Is this function documented anywhere? If so, could someone point me to it please? If not, could someone please take some screenshots of the correct process so that we understand the correct way to do this and can help artists through the process.

Thanks, Andrew

An artist page is created whenever the first artwork is documented. Super admins can change the artist name, but the only the dispaly name on the page will change, not the link of the page.
For example: the Aleks Grilz case

His original page was called: Artist Alex Grils - Street Art Cities
If we change the name with the ‘rename’ function, displayed above, tha artist page weblink wouldn’t change.

The display name on the top of the artist page on the other hand will be ‘renamed’.

Best practice is to merge the correct artist name with the documented artist name, but this doesn’t always work.
That’s why i prefer to change it manually in each artwork, in some cases a hell of a job.

If you come across this in the future, please let me know and I will solve it.

Ok, thanks Tim, but I’m a little confused. So let me ask a couple more questions.
Firstly, the screenshot you show is the “Super Admin” screen?

Secondly, for the Aleks Grilz case that was not so much a merge, but a name change, and yet you have managed to change the URL, despite saying that it wouldn’t be changed? So, did you first create a new artwork with the new name by copy/pasting from one of the existing, and then update all the other artworks to the new name?

Thirdly, my main question was around what an artist can do when claiming their page. I thought that someone had told me once that the artist has the ability to edit their name when claiming profile and my question was around that process for the artist and how it works.

Is your answer saying that no such capability exists for the artist? I may have been dreaming it.

However there does seem to be some issues with names when artists claim because we have seen a few times that weird things happen to the artists name when page is claimed and I have, a couple of times done some cleanup for the artists in these cases, so if not a name-change function then perhaps we need to determine what is causing these issues.

There is indeed something weird going on when an Artists Profile becomes verified. At a certain point, the artists name changes in a slug like Alex-Grils. The past weeks, I edited numerous new verified artists names.

Stef, thanks for agreeing, I have fixed them in the past too, there is definitely an issue, and I am convinced it is something to do with when an artist claims their profile, and changes their name, which is why I asked about this feature/process, which obviously I know nothing about never having seen or had access to an artist profile.

Please see the attached image which shows examples of two artists in Australia who have recently claimed their profile and (I assume) used a feature to rename themselves.

You’ll notice Tiff Drysdale has two different names “Tiff Rysdale” and Tiff-rysdale”, while Julian Clavijo has at least three different name variations “Julian-clavijo”, “Julian Clavijo” and “Julian Clavijo - PACHI”.

Please note these are “display name variations” only, they are not different profiles, it’s just the display name that shows at the top of the artwork page and on the hunter’s Artworks screen like the example shown. They all point back to the one artist profile.

It is easy to fix these, for the ones I fixed previously for other artists I’ve just edited the artwork, deleted the artist and then reselected the same artist, but I thought it better to leave these in case someone wanted to look into the cause, as fixing the issue that is causing this seems more important than fixing these specific artists artworks.

Anyway, just reiterating, I’d love to have confirmation of the fact that there is a function that allows the artist to rename themselves, maybe some screenshots, and any documentation on how to properly use it.

There is another one too, another recent claim, artist was Geoff Filmer, claimed profile and changed to GraffikPaint, there appears to be two variations of the display name “Graffikpaint” & “GraffikPaint” (lower case vs upper case “P”).

@Tim helped the artist with this one I think, so he may know something about it. I also noticed that the old artist URL is still active, despite not being able to search for the old name in the index.
