The reason this happens is that we are doing some email address normalisation for the award votes, to try and prevent cheating – for Gmail addresses, dots don’t matter, so we delete them from your email address to make sure you can only vote once.
We aren’t applying this same rule to user email addresses when you sign in, so effectively you have two accounts, one with a dot in the email address, and one without.
We should ideally apply the same rules to user email addresses, but that would cause some unexpected behaviours, so I need to have a think about how to properly solve this.
Thanks a lot for looking into this and for the clear explanation. No rush at all on my side, I mainly wanted to point it out in case it’s useful. Of course it would be nice to see the votes in the profile, but it’s definitely not a big deal if it takes time to figure out or even stays as is.
