Re-painted artworks, how to proceed?

I think this kind of question already appear in the forum but i cannot find it. The question is how to proceed when you want to update a re-painted artwork, this is a regular “problem” when it’s annual festivals on the same spots.

Example, the Leake street (Banksy tunnel) in London it’s repainted every time.

Should the local hunter overwrite the same artwork? Delete other local hunter post without consent? Contact the country manager?

Best regards.

The hunter should add the new artwork and mark the old one as Status = Removed (don’t delete it).
Optionally you can use the “Previously on this wall” tag on the new one to establish a history of the wall to point to the old artwork.

Hey, valid questions there. There are a couple of different things in your post, let me try to break it down:

  1. Artworks that are painted over, are no longer active. So they should be removed from the active map. This means the status of the artwork needs to be changed from Active to Removed. This can be done without consent from the original hunter; if an artwork is no longer there, it is no longer there. The artwork can then still be found in searches and on the artists page, but will no longer be shown on the map.

Please do not delete the artwork by using the Permanently remove button, but change the status as said. Deleting is only for instances where a mistake was made, like double uploads, or artworks that don’t meet the platform guidelines.

  2. If a wall is painted over, you should use the link function previously on this wall in the marker section of editing an artwork. This will create a timeline for a wall, where users can find links to the artworks that were on that same wall earlier

More info about this in this thread: Link artworks and create timelines

  3. The Leake street tunnel is a legal wall, which means the art gets painted over in high frequenty. For these type of places we normally don’t document all of the art seperately, as this would be a mamoth task to keep up. These are added to the map as a Place rather than an Artwork.

Hope this helps!
