Further improvements to our community emails system

Based on feedback from our country managers, we’ve applied some improvements to our community emails system:

  • We’ve switched to a new email provider, which will give us much more insight into the email deliverability of messages sent through the system, and will make it easier to discover what is happening if something goes wrong. No more black box.
  • With this new system, we’ve decided to pass that information on to our country manager: you can now see if an email was delivered (meaning accepted by the user’s email provider), opened, if it bounced (not accepted), or was marked as spam.
  • A preview of the email address is displayed in cases where we don’t have a name for the user, e.g. for users that manage an artist profile.

The new delivery statuses will be rolling out over the next 24 hours, and will look like this in the email history.

Successful deliveries display a little grey check box for delivery, and green for opens (if the user’s email client allows us to know whether the email was opened - not all clients do):

If delivery fails, a warning or error icon is shown:

Hopefully this helps get more insight into whether your emails arrive, and do let me know if you have feedback on these changes!

I love this update Thomas, we will be testing the hell out of this

Thomas,

I sent another follow-up email to a Hunter signup request where I am not getting a response to test the new changes.

I did get the “green tick” but as you can see though, there seems to be an issue in that the mail thread display does not show the content of my email, it just says “No content” - see screenshot 1.

Screenshot 2 shows the actual email in my Sent folder where you can see that there was actually content.

Does this mean the recipient received no content? Or just an issue with the reproduction of the mail thread display?

Andrew

The new system allows me to check that really easily, thankfully:

That’s what David got, so looks like it’s a bug in the web interface for text-only emails, I’ll get that fixed now - thank you!

Thomas,

That “No content” bug is still happening, it has happened to both of my last two hunter signup threads (Lachie Mills - approved hunter, Cameron Skelton - pending hunter).

In the case of both the “No content” message appears for my initial email. For Lachie, he got it and replied and the content of his and my subsequent replies appear ok, just the inital email is missing.

Sorry about that, I’ve given it another try this morning - it’s difficult to test because I can’t easily send text-only emails myself, so would you mind giving it a try?

Thomas, I did send some text-only emails the other day to Neda and Lia via the Hunter mail button, and they worked fine. Every time I’ve seen this issue it has always been when I click the mail icon to initiate a sign-up discussion with a new hunter, and it is the only time it has happened, and only on the initial email. So, I can’t easily test it until I get another sign-up request, I’ll let you know what happens then.
