If I look at, for example, the map around this point in Tallinn, 4 of the artworks appear just as plain white circles. I’m not sure if this is just a temporary glitch, but it’s been like this for a few days (and not just at this location: that’s just a good example as there are a bunch of them there. There are one offs in lots of places). This happens on both the website and the phone app.
The artworks themselves do have photos if I click into them, so maybe it’s some sort of caching issue?
There are several types of errors related to the photos. 1. The photo is not visible in the artwork’s information sheet. 2. The information sheet has a photo, but a white dot appears on the map. 3. In the “Exploration - Viewed Works” section, a SAC logo appears instead of the photo. I have resolved some of these cases by deleting previous photos and uploading new ones. This isn’t always possible with damaged works, and another solution would have to be found. Another photo problem I detected yesterday, but haven’t been able to analyze, is that in the breakdown of works by artist, some artists appear without a photo.
@Julian_GD In the case of missing images in the list of artworks for an artist, I’ve found that one way to fix that is to re-crop the thumbnail from the primary image: that usually generates a workable version.
@thomas It seems that this is happening specifically with artworks with plain numeric IDs (33431, 22072, 37064, etc) rather than UUIDs. There isn’t a 100% match in both directions (some with those IDs do have images), but every case I’ve checked so far with an empty white circle on the Tallinn map has that ID system.
Not sure if this is related, but i know this problem has happened before. I’ll post a link to the thread, in case it helps with the diagnosis and cure:
I did that for one i found in Cardiff, and that worked. Unfortunately, it didn’t work for any of the ones in the area linked in the first post of this thread.
@SAOS_Street_Art_Obse I suspect there was just a lag in refreshing: all the images you recropped in Tallinn did successfully regenerate the pins. I can manually regenerate all the others I find with plain white circles in Tallinn, but as this is a widespread issue with artworks with old-style IDs, it would be great if this regeneration could be automated in some way.
Thanks everyone! I’m trying to build a system to automatically recognise these broken preview images and fixing them. Might take a while for it has gone through the entire list of markers on the platform though.
This is unrelated I think, but something I’d like to fix - can you send me a screenshot of this, and tell me if this is happening on the SAC website, or in the dashboard?
