I’ve added a few new photos to existing artworks recently where the original had shadows, or had cars in front etc, and I was able to visit at a better time. I’m not totally sure I’m doing this correctly though. Is there an up-to-date guide to current best practice for this?
From reading past topics, it seems that some of the nuances of this have changed over time, but the current setup seems to still be that where none of the existing photos are are marked with a photographer name, I need to add that to each of them as well as my new one. @thomas has commented in the past that he’s reluctant to implement something that automatically sets photographer=hunter, in case there are some where that’s not true, but does that mean I also can’t assume that when adding a new photo? Should I be messaging the original hunter each time I want to upload a new photo to check they actually took the original photo(s)?
I’m also unsure how/if Photographer names interplay with Hunter profiles - adding a photographer is just a plain text input that doesn’t seem to then map to their ID: e.g. I added Poison Ivy to the original photo on Artwork by Darius Cloud, MintyShrimp - Street Art Cities but the credits on that now link to Poison Ivy - Photographer - Street Art Cities which doesn’t include anything else uploaded by Poison Ivy - Street Art Cities or link to that profile. Should I be adding the Hunter’s UUID instead of their name, or prefixing it with an @ or something?
Adding additional photos also doesn’t seem to show up in my Profile or Logbook. Again, not sure if this is because I’m not adding them in the right way, or whether those just aren’t events that either of those pages currently list.
I’m not sure from all this whether adding new photos is being subtly discouraged as something that can be done, but should only be for exceptional cases rather than a regular thing, or whether the workflow for it just hasn’t had the same amount of love and attention paid to it as other parts of the site yet (or I just haven’t found the much simpler/better/cleaner way to do this that’s right in front of my eyes!)
